International Yoga Day 2018 by Akshar Yoga

International Yoga Day 2018 by Akshar Yoga

Our world lies in a constant state of tussle with climate change, famine, poverty, depleting resources and terrorism. Somewhere in the background, an ancient science patiently bided its hour of dissemination. Like a knight in shining armour, Yoga, riding on the steed of International Yoga Day ushered in a new era of living. We need Yoga now, more than ever.
Yoga as old as the Gods is the knowledge given by Lord Shiva to His consort Ma Parvati when asked how humans would find liberation from the cycle of birth & death. The word ‘yoga’ translated from Sanskrit means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.
The Indian Government, notably our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the United Nations can be heartily credited for bringing International Yoga Day into existence. In 2014, during the opening of the 69th session of the U.N General Assembly, Shri Narendra Modi in his address introduced the suggestion for ‘Yoga Day’. The draft resolution proposed by India was endorsed by a record 175 member states.
At Akshar Yoga, the 4th Annual International Yoga Day is a much anticipated event. As with the previous years, no efforts are being spared in making this day a resounding success. Grand Master Akshar sincerely believes that the outcome of any Yoga practice should be happiness. Making no distinction in socioeconomic divides, Akshar Yoga identifies the human body as the vehicle towards blissfulness.
Since the inception of International Yoga Day, Akshar Yoga, with the sole motive to spread this divine art has reached out to thousands of people. The very first Yoga Day in 2015, held at Manpho Convention Center saw the participation of around 8000 enthusiastic practitioners. The Guests for the event included the Health Minister, Education Minister and the Agriculture Minister of Karnataka. In the second year, the Chief Justice of Karnataka presided over the event and celebrated along with over 4000 people at Brigade Gateway’s Sheraton Hotel. 2016 also had a number of very special attendees; differently-abled children trained by Akshar Yoga teachers masterfully executed complex asanas leaving the audience spell-bound.
Akshar Yoga celebrated International Yoga Day 2017 with a 3-hour Yoga camp at the World Trade Center, Bangalore. Over 2000 participants practised asanas, pranayama and meditation along with 300 teachers. Simultaneously, Akshar Yoga teachers were present at various other locations in the city where celebrations were afoot. Schools, colleges and corporate offices experienced the spirit of yoga as they practised with advance Akshar Yoga instructors.

This year, to commemorate the special event, we have 1000 differently-abled children performing various Yoga asanas. Among them are included children who are visually impaired. Additionally, Akshar Yoga is aiming to set 24 World Records of asanas including Bhujpidasana, Sirsansana, Naukasana and many more. These efforts spearheaded by Grand Master Akshar are supported by our pan India Media Partner- Times Foundation.
Today, Yoga through its malleability has emerged from the shadows, shaken off its divine dust to enjoy being practiced in various forms around the world. As its popularity grows, a whopping 193 countries are set to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21.
Shri Narendra Modi’s resolution regarding International Yoga Day notes “the importance of individuals and populations making healthier choices and following lifestyle patterns that foster good health.” Let us collectively build strength and poise through Asanas, expand our energies with Pranayama, learn the subtle art of deep rest from meditation and gain invaluable insight by submitting to the glorious wisdom that is Yoga.
