Power Yoga is focused purely on building the physical body and is a health regimen for people from all walks of life. Unlike traditional forms of Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga, Power Yoga comes with zero restrictions, is less a science of spirituality and more of a trigger to create a taste for yoga.

At Akshar Yoga, Power Yoga is only a preparatory practise for the body and mind before moving up to higher levels of training that are called for in Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga. Akshar Yoga is the only academy that has a syllabus for Power Yoga. The inclusion of Bhagavad Gita and the suggested reading of Chapter 6 is aimed at balancing the mind. The PanchTattvaNamaskars or Salutation to the 5 elements of Fire, Earth, Ether, Water and Space is exclusive to Akshar Yoga. There are specific formulas such as Weight Management, Core Muscle and Flexibility that have been created to stave off depression, anxiety, hunger etc.

Power yoga works on your physical body developing your stamina, flexibility and strength. More suited to city living, this adaptation of Yoga emphasizes on the importance of good health in order to fulfil and achieve life’s goals. The modern Power Yoga is devoid of a Guru and Shishya or Master and Disciple system. Instead, the teacher here takes on the role of a mentor, guide and life coach. The mantra that resonates with this philosophy is ‘Tad VidhhiPranipathePraniPrashne Na Sevaya’.

This roughly translates into the meaning that growth on the path of Yoga is through the question-answer method with the Guru. This fulfils the role that the Guru is meant to perform which is to lead his disciples away from darkness and towards the light.
